![]() Additional civic contributions include free Vessel Safety Checks, keeping the Socastee boat landing clean as well as collecting information about local waters to assist NOAA in upgrading nautical charts (Co-Op Charting). The Education page shows the many courses available to our members as well as classes offered to the public as a part of our Civic Service. We have three primary areas of interest – Civic Service, Self Education and being a fraternal BOATING CLUB. The thirteen stars and thirteen stripes in the Ensign (flag) are taken directly from the United States Yacht Ensign and thus they have the same meaning as in the Yacht and National Ensigns (that is, thirteen stars for the original states and thirteen stripes for the colonies). The United States Power Squadrons was 100 years old in 2015. This national non-profit organization, founded in 1914 has its headquarters in Raleigh, NC and is dedicated to safer boating through education and communicates through their national publication called The Ensign. ![]() Long Bay Power Squadron is one of 14 squadrons making up District 26 of The United States Power Squadrons.
